Our Orthodontists Answer Your Invisalign Questions

For those of you who are interested in Invisalign, you may have some questions about this treatment method that uses a series of clear, removable aligners to bring teeth into proper alignment. As certified Invisalign providers, our orthodontists can answer any questions you have! Below are a few of the most frequently asked questions about this treatment method along with the answers to help you decide if Invisalign is right for you.

How often must I wear my aligners?

In order for Invisalign to work as it’s designed, you need to wear the aligners for up to 22 hours each day. You should only remove them when eating and drinking, and when brushing and flossing.

Do I have to watch what I eat if I’m wearing Invisalign?

No. There are no food restrictions to adhere to when you’re wearing removable aligners as you simply take the aligners out when eating. For the entire time you’re being treated with Invisalign, you’re free to enjoy all your favorite foods.

Will my speech be affected by having the aligners in?

Your speech may be affected early on but after a short adjustment period, your speech will return to normal as you get used to having the aligners in.

Is it uncomfortable to wear Invisalign?

You can expect to feel some minor pressure when wearing Invisalign, just as you would if you were wearing regular braces. This pressure is an indicator that the aligners are moving your teeth just as they should be.

How long does treatment take with Invisalign?

Treatment time varies from one patient to the next, depending upon each patient’s orthodontic needs. However, most patients complete treatment within 6 to 18 months.
