Foods to Avoid

Protect Your Braces From Damage

At Doleski & Wolford Orthodontics, we provide high quality, individualized orthodontic treatment to patients of all ages at our three office locations in Erie, Lawrence Park, and Corry PA. Whether you’re looking for a provider of Erie, PA Invisalign for yourself or are in need of an orthodontist to provide your child with early treatment, we can conveniently meet all your family’s orthodontic needs!

When we place braces on your teeth, your orthodontist will speak with you about the importance of steering clear of foods and snacks that can damage or break your appliances. You should avoid eating hard, crunchy, sticky and gooey foods and snacks that can break your wires and brackets. You should also limit the number of foods you eat that contain high amounts of sugar, because eating too much sugar puts you at higher risk for developing tooth decay.

It is also important not to bite your nails while wearing braces or to chew on items like pens and pencils. Also, never use your teeth as tools for opening items like plastic packages or stuck lids. All these activities can easily damage or break your braces.

Be sure to check your braces regularly for bent or loose wires and brackets. If you notice that something is bent or loose, contact us right away to arrange for a repair appointment.
